Today is the US and Canada publication date of 13 Things That Don’t Make Sense. With Entanglement out in Australia, that makes me an internationally unknown author. As good a reason to start blogging as any.
In honour of the theme of 13 Things, I want to begin by pointing out that I love science. I’m a BIG FAN of working out what everything is really about, as opposed to what some people would like it to be about. So imagine my disappointment when I went to a conference on the nature of Truth in Lugano, Switzerland a few weeks ago and found out that science doesn’t have any claim on the truth. I find it utterly bewildering – it goes against every instinct in me. And yet I can also see the points that the various gathered mathematicians, philosophers, historians and scientists were making (I couldn’t understand the point the attending Catholic cardinal was making at all). Here’s what I wrote for the Balzan Foundation about the conference.
